Minnesota’s First Hutterite Colony Established Near Graceville in 1956

Our part will be to research the newspaper files to get the “rest of the story.” In 1956, Minnesota’s first Hutterite colony was started on 1,850 acres near Graceville. Land for the colony was purchased from L.A. Weesner, Clyde Reeves and L.M.Bauman for $211,000. The colony was organized under South Dakota laws and paid the same real estate and personal property taxes as other corporations.
