Fun for all this weekend during 87th Annual Cornfest

The Big Stone Lake Area Chamber of Commerce presents the 87th Annual Cornfest this weekend, Aug. 21-23, with a full slate of events for the whole family. All events will be held at Lakeside Park unless otherwise noted.

Friday Highlights

Arts, Crafts and food vendors will open at 4 p.m. The beer garden will open at 4:30 p.m. 

Bingo will be held in the north shelter from 5-7 p.m. sponsored by Big Stone County 4-H.

Inflatables in the park for the kids will be held from 5-8 p.m. No charge, sponsored by the Big Stone Lake Area Chamber.

A Diaper Derby, sponsored by Options for Life & Families, will be held at 6 p.m.

The Ice Cream Social will be held at the Big Stone County Museum from 5-7 p.m.  

The Miss Big Stone Lake Area Pageant will be held at the Gazebo at Lakeside Park starting at 7 p.m.

The Garage Dwellers will be performing at the Beer Gardens starting at 9 p.m. sponsored by the Big Stone Lake Area Chamber.

 Saturday Events

Saturday starts with registration at 7:15 a.m. and for the 5K-10K Mile Walk/Run at 8 a.m. at the Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge. This is sponsored by Big Stone Therapies, Pro Image Partners and Ortonville Area Health Services. 

The 4-H Ortonville Sportsmen’s Club “Not Just Cakes” pancake breakfast will be held from 8-11 a.m. Funds raised will help local youth programs including the Ortonville High School Trap Shooting Team and Big Stone County 4-H participate in shooting sports at no cost.

The 3-D Archery Shoot will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Minnkota Archery Range near the Ortonville Golf Course. Call Scott at 320-815-1752 with any questions.

The Big Stone Cruisers Annual Cornfest Cruise-In Car Show will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the foot of Big Stone Lake.

Citizens for Big Stone Lake will have their annual meeting at the gazebo starting at 9 a.m. The 4-H and Shooting Sports will be serving lunch at the Car Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Arts, crafts and vendors will open at 10 a.m. Inflatables in the park for the kids from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The beer garden opens at 10 a.m.

The Kid’s Treasure Hunt will start at 10 a.m. Meet at the information booth to be directed to location. Sponsored by Cutting Edge Engraving.  

The Kids “Firefighter” Obstacle Course will be  held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  

The Doggie Pageant will be held at the Gazebo starting at 11 a.m. This is sponsored by Homestead Animal Health and The Paw Shop.

The Beanbag Tournament will begin at 11  a.m. Registration will start at 10 a.m. located near the Beer Garden. Entry Fee is $20/team. All ages are welcome with a 100 percent payback. (NO COOLERS ALLOWED).

Kids Bingo will be held in the North Shelter from noon to 1 p.m., with prizes awarded. Sponsored by Big Stone County 4-H.

Horse Races will be held at the VFW starting at 3 p.m.

Magician Nick Sharpe will be at the Gazebo at 4 p.m. sponsored by the King Koin Laundromat.

 “Pandemic” will be performing at the beer gardens from 8 p.m to midnight. This is sponsored by the Big Stone Lake Area Chamber with free admission.

Sunday’s Events

Sunday will begin with the 3-D Archery Shoot from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Minnkota Archery Range located near the Ortonville Golf Course.

An All-Faith church service at the Big Stone County Museum’s Bethany Church will be held at 9 a.m. 

Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge Choir will be performing at the Gazebo starting at 10 a.m. Join them for songs of hope and stories of freedom from addiction. Sponsored by Living Hope Fellowship Church.

Arts, crafts and food vendors will open at 10 a.m. The beer garden opens at 11 a.m. 

At 11 a.m., Magician Nick Sharpe will be performing at the Gazebo, sponsored by Schmidt’s Landing.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. get your fill of fresh sweet corn free at Lakeside Park. This is sponsored by Pepsi of Ortonville, Hartman’s Super Valu,  Hedge and Herberg Trucking and the Big Stone Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

Inflatables in the park for the kids from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Grand Parade will begin at 2 p.m. Line-up for the parade will be on First Street with the registration near the Avenue of Flags. The parade will proceed north on main street. Grand Marshals for the parade are Julie French and Adam Dashiell of KDIO Radio.

Several events start in the park at 3:30 p.m., including the “Swingtime Band”, Kids’ Coin Dig and the Kiddie Tractor Pull. 

At 4:30 p.m. all drawings and winners will be announced. This includes Cornfest buttons and kids bikes.

WYSIWYG will be performing at the beer garden from 5-7 p.m.. Also from 5-7 p.m., Can Koozie Drawing will be held in the beer gardens.
