Council approves purchase of equipment for Fire Dept.

The Ortonville City Council met for their second meeting of the month on Monday, Aug. 17 in the Library Media  Center. All council members were present for the meeting. Librarian Jason Frank on behalf of the Pioneerland board is requesting that Ortonville provide a three percent increase over the 2026 funding. For 2027 the budget request is $93,986. The increase will be spent on services, collection and programs to benefit your community, allow for hiring and retention of qualified library staff, and support the increasing costs of materials and delivery. The funding will enable Pioneerland to continue to provide quality library service.  Frank also mentioned that they strive to offer unique and engaging educational and recreational opportunities to families and library patrons in Big Stone County. From story time for toddlers to support groups for elders experiencing memory loss, that they are there for people of all ages and walks of life. They aim to make hands-on learning a regular part of our operations, utilizing our proximity to the lake, the river, and thousands of acres of public land to experience nature, create art, and explore the history of our region.
